TWO of Scotland’s most celebrated new authors, Kirstin Innes and Kirsty Logan, will take part in an event this week discussing the developments in Scottish literature and politics over the past few years and where Scotland could go next.
The event called “The New Scottish Literary Canon” will be a panel discussion hosted by the bookseller D Franklin and also featuring Maxine Blane of CommonSpace.
The Glasgewian authors have been part of a new wave of Scottish literature which has seen women lead the way in expressing political views and social conscious through fictional writing.
The event will run from 7pm to 8.30pm on Thursday 27th October. You can subscribe to the event here.
D Franklin, the bookseller who organised the event said: “Kirsty Logan and Kirstin Innes are at the forefront of a new wave of Scottish fiction pushing the boundaries of what can be explored in novels. In a time of extreme political turbulence and turmoil, literature can be a powerful guiding force in exploring alternative ways of being, essential in these times.
“We’re very excited to have two emerging voices in Scottish fiction chaired by a representative of an emerging voice in Scottish journalism, Maxine Blane of CommonSpace.”
Kirstin Innes the author of Fishnet, which won the Guardian’s Not the Booker Prize 2015, was hailed by the Guardian as a “stunning and engaging debut” and Kirsty Logan is the novelist, poet and journalist and the author of The Gracekeepers and recently A Portable Shelter.
