Free Our City is a campaign being launched by Get Glasgow Moving calling for public transport to be made free to use. “This radical policy is a necessary one: to address the climate emergency and gross inequalities in our society and ensure we make a just and green recovery from the pandemic.” – Free Our City manifesto.
“For too long, bus workers and local communities have suffered from the effects of the privatisation of bus services in the 1980s – with rocketing fares, the removal of routes, reductions in service provision, limitations on wages and conditions, increased working hours and threats to job security.” – Jackson Cullinane of Unite the Union and president of the Scottish Trade Union Congress.
The ‘Free Our City’ campaign is holding an online conference on Saturday 19th September with the tagline “Imagine if buses were free…”
