Loki and Lesley Riddoch among guests at upcoming Southside Fringe event
THE FUTURE of the famous Govanhill Baths will be discussed at an event on Thursday night as part of the Southside Fringe festival, after refurbishment plans were confirmed earlier this year.
Commentators and campaigners will discuss 'what next' for the iconic venue this week, with a line-up which includes broadcaster Lesley Riddoch, poet Jim Monaghan, human rights lawyer Aamer Anwar, hip hop artist and commentator Darren 'Loki' McGarvey, and Save the Pool activist Nicola Fisher.

Having saved the Victorian building in a long battle with the council fifteen years ago, the community trust now running the venue revealed earlier this year that funding had been secured for a total refurbishment to bring the baths back into operation as a swimming and wellbeing centre.
In recent years the building has been used as a community centre, hosting events, meetings, festivals and more, gaining a reputation as a cultural and political hub. During Thursday evening's panel event, titled ‘What Now for Govanhill Baths?’, guests will discuss what the refurbishment means for this aspect of Govanhill Baths, and how to deal with the challenges faced by community-run events.
The panel discussion will take place inside the Baths from 5.30pm-7pm, and attendance is free but ticketed.
