Conference to discuss marxist ideas in Scotland
A RECENTLY elected Irish socialist and anti-water charges activist is set to address a Scottish conference of socialist ideas.
Brid Smith, one of six socialists recently elected to the Irish parliament in the wake of a mass movement against austerity, will speak alongside Marxist economist Michael Roberts and Scottish RMT official Gordon Martin at the one day conference in Glasgow.
Speakers will address issues from “Ireland’s new politics” to “Brexit and the left” and “Corbynism, the Labour party and the fight for socialism”, as well as issues affecting contemporary Scottish politics.
Conference organisers said: “The Festival will provide a unique opportunity to hear some of the best socialist thinkers and campaigners around and to engage in debate and discussion about how we resist austerity, challenge oppression and build a different world.”
The full event will run from 10am to 5pm Saturday 29 October.

Tickets for the event, which is hosted by the Socialist Workers Party, are £5 waged £3 unwaged and can be purchased here.
