News: Junior doctors dig in for five day strike

Medical unions clash over planned strike days
The Junior doctors strike is set to intensify with a planned five days of continues strike action this month, causing friction between medical unions, with the senior doctor’s Academy of Medical Royal Colleges saying it is “disappointed” with the decision to strike between 12 and 16 September and the British Medical Association standing by the junior doctors.
Hurricane Hermine descends on Florida
Hurrican Hermine is battering the Florida coast. The category one hurricane is the first to make landfall in the state for 11 years.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has launched a nationwide listening campaign in Edinburgh today, hoping to source the views of people across the country on Scotland’s constitutional future. The SNP leader is expected set out new legislation for a possible second independence referendum with the return of the Scottish Parliament next week.

Andy Murray came out on top in his match against Marcel Granollers yesterday, placing him alongside Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund as the first three British tennis players to make it so far into the US Open since 1968.
Culture: Chase and Status first act announced for Glasgow Mobo awards

Electronic act chase and Status are the first performers to be announced for the return of the Mobo awards to Glasgow in November. Glasgow has become a popular location for the awards, which will come to Scotland for the fourth time since 2009.

Yesterday CommonSpace ran a collection of tragicomic reactions of Labour members to a new wave of expulsion of members in advance of the Labour leadership contest.

At least one of those expulsions has now been reversed, with long time Scottish Labour member Ewan Gibbs being readmitted to the party having been expelled twice in under a year. In out, in out, shake it all about…….
