SNP deputy leader and MP for Moray Angus Robertson, spoke to CommonSpace at the SNP conference in Aberdeen after a week which saw Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, announce she will be seeking a second referendum on Scottish independence.

THE SNP held their spring conference in Aberdeen where there was much discussion about the possibility of having a second referendum on independence following the announcement by Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon on Monday (13th March).

The issue was the main topic when SNP’s deputy leader Angus Robertson kicked off the conference on Friday.

In his speech opening party conference, Robertson made a clearly defined link between protection of public services and the path towards independence. It set the theme for a conference in which the party hopes to frame the second referendum as a contest between a hard Tory Brexit and an inclusive pro-European Scotland.

After his speech, Robertson spoke to CommonSpace reporter David Thomson at the conference about the prospect of both Scottish independence referendum and how Scotland can survive Brexit.

Robertson also discussed the forthcoming local council elections that will take place in May.
