Legal loser Donald Trump asks party with zero MSPs to oppose Scottish wind farms
THE INCOMING president of the USA, Donald Trump, asked representatives of the UK Independence Party (Ukip) to oppose Scottish renewables developments as they ‘spoil the view’, according to a Ukip attendee at a top level meeting in New York.
Andy Wigmore, who accompanied right-wing leader Nigel Farage to meet the shock presidential victor, told leading news outlets that Trump had complained about the impact of wind farms in Scotland.
The revelation adds to a series of dodgy connections between Trump’s business and political interests just weeks after he defeated Hillary Clinton in the US election, despite losing the popular vote by several million votes.
Wigmore, commenting on Trump’s remarks, told the New York Times: “He did not say he hated wind farms as a concept; he just did not like them spoiling the views.” He added that Trump “did suggest that we should campaign on it”.
Trump lost a long-running legal battle against an offshore wing development off the Menie estate in Aberdeenshire.
The UK Supreme Court unanimously rejected his legal case last year.
Ukip, who reports say Trump wants to campaign against wind development, failed to win a single seat in the Scottish Parliamentary election earlier this year.
Katy Tur of US news network NBC highlighted the wind farms case as an example of Trump blurring his personal business interests and the office of the presidency.
