Margaret leading vote as poll set to close

20 YEAR old Maggie Smith from Airdrie is set to seal an exclusive modelling deal for Africa Fasion Week London. (AFWL)

The model, who moved from Kampala in Uganda to the North Lanarshire town at the age of five, entered the group’s online competition.

With polling set to close today (Wednesday, 4th February) she has received over 1,500 votes, 160 more than her nearest competitor.

Smith says: “I’ve had a brilliant experience so far as a model but definitely feel there’s a lot of improvement & development needed from myself so I can be more diverse & successful.

“I felt entering the competition to be the face of Africa Fashion Week London would be an amazing experience. Being the face and ambassador for the AFWL campaign, would be so overwhelming and exciting.

“I’ve been encouraging everyone to vote through all aspects of social media. My friends, family and work colleagues have been sharing day and night on Facebook for everyone to vote. I can’t thank them enough. Fingers crossed I stay in first place come midnight!”

Africa Fashion Week says the winner will represent AFWL on all promotional platforms, thereby giving the successful model a big break into the public eye.

AFWL describes itself as “the biggest African event of its kind in Europe” and “A collaborative catwalk and exhibition, highlighting the industry’s established and emerged African designers, AFWL is at the forefront of capturing the surge of the African inspired trends in the fashion industry.”
