Private landlords and other property owners with empty homes in Edinburgh are being encouraged to sign up to a scheme whereby they can lease their property to Edinburgh City Council for five years with guaranteed rent, which would be used to house the homeless. The Private Sector Leasing scheme is seen as an alternative to putting tenants up in temporary accommodation like B&B’s. Link Group, which is running the scheme for the council, is also looking to purchase properties from Edinburgh landlords, including those who were previously using properties for short-term let.
