Figures show prison population has fallen

Scotland’s prison population has fallen since courts stopped trying suspects. There are 7,339 prisoners in Scotland now, down 821 on the same week last year and the lowest level since March 2018. The Scottish Prison Service said that the low figure was “probably down to court business being interrupted and a variety of other factors”. (The Times)
