Professor Hugh Pennington, microbiologist at Aberdeen university, has said that environmental health officers at local authorities should lead “a fleet of contact tracers”, as he called on the Scottish Government to “ramp up capacity” in community tracing and testing. Professor Pennington, who will address the Scottish Parliament Health & Sport Committee today, has said environmental health officers “are well trained in public health matters and would make good trainers for a fleet of contact tracers”.
