Five years ago Scotland extended the Community Right to Buy to urban areas, and extended the funding from the Scottish Land Fund to community bodies in cities and towns.

A piece of vacant land in Maryhill – Collina St – has been put up for sale by Glasgow city council “exclusively for private ownership”. Consultation was held with the community thirteen years ago, before Covid-19, austerity and the climate emergency, and the community want the right to be consulted on how the land is used.

After an unsuccessful bid to buyout two buildings on Dumfries high street last year, Midsteeple Quarter, a community benefit society, have now purchased the two buildings with the help of South of Scotland Enterprises.
