Common Weal’s Campaign’s Officer Jonathon Shafi returns to the Policy Podcast with Head of Policy & Research Dr Craig Dalzell. This week, they discuss the Scottish National Investment Bank.
The SNIB is Common Weal’s flagship policy win and Craig and Jonathon tell the story of Common Weal’s involvment in the project up to the latest news of the adoption of the bank by the Scottish Parliament’s scrutiny commitee. Their final report can be read here.
Craig explains what the SNIB is intended to do in terms of providing “patient finance” to support Scotland’s economy and how the SNIB differs from other investment funds and from other types of bank like a Scottish Central Bank.
This policy is a perfect example of how a small think-tank backed by a broad and powerful grassroots campaign can change Scotland in significant and fundamental ways and Common Weal hopes that this will be the first of many such projects.
Common Weal’s work is only possible thanks to our generous supporters who regularly donate an average of £10 per month. If you would like to help us build our vision of an All of Us First Scotland, you can do so here: http://commonweal.scot/about/donate
The Policy Podcast would like to discuss all of Common Weal’s policy papers in detail over the next several months so if there are any papers that you would like to see covered sooner rather than later, send your suggestions in to craig@common.scot
