Presenters Carolyn Scott and Jack Foster team up with CommonSpace for new offering
WELCOME to the first in a brand new global news programme on CommonSpace in partnership with broadcasters and presenters Carolyn Scott and Jack Foster.
Scott and Foster will be known to new media listeners and readers in Scotland after their time at NewsShaft, and we’re delighted to be working with them to offer this comprehensive new podcast featuring key pieces of both Scottish and global news across each week, complete with interviews and analysis of events.
The duo said: “We’ll be able to offer training to work experience candidates on how to produce radio reports, and give them a chance to broadcast those reports to a global audience; we’ll be giving voice to the stories from Scotland that CommonSpace does incredible work shedding light on, and promoting them to a wider international audience.
“We’ll be making best use of all the resources available, working with the CommonSpace team to continue bringing independent high quality reporting.”
CommonSpace editor Angela Haggerty added: “I’m delighted we’re working again with Carolyn and Jack. They produce such high quality work, and this programme isn’t afraid to put Scotland on a global stage, which is desperately needed in the Scottish media as we move away from seeing ourselves as regional media and build something fit to represent a country with its own parliament and view on the world.”
Episode one of The World This Week features the Scottish Government’s new programme for government; the recent strike by McDonald’s staff – the first ever of its kind; Kezia Dugdale’s resignation as Scottish Labour leader; how the Canadian government is trying to help LGBT people facing persecution in Chechnya; and fears over human rights abuses in Myanmar, where concerns over possible ethnic cleansing are rising.
