Ukip front runner in hospital with “bleeding on the brain” after attack

STEVEN WOOLFE, the favourite to become the next Ukip leader is in a critical condition after reports he was punched by a fellow Ukip MEP.

Woolfe, who has been tipped to replace Diane James as leader of the Eurosceptic party, collapsed outside the European Parliament. Unconfirmed reports are that the MEP’s condition is life threatening.

In a press statement, Ukip said that Woolfe had collapsed following a meeting with colleagues this morning, following the resignation of  James after just 18 days of her leadership.

It is being reported that Woolfe is suffering from “bleeding of the brain” following a punched received to the head. One witness told Euronews that he fell into a window after being punched.

Today is Steven Woolfe's 49th birthday. He is the party’s spokesperson on migration having been a lawyer until 2010.
